LB Aaron Lynch and TE Vance McDonald suffered concussions and are in the concussion protocol this week. DE Quinton Dial collided with Lynch in the third quarter, causing his injury. Earlier in the game, Dial collided with LB NaVorro Bowman in the second quarter. He was also checked for a possible concussion, but was cleared to play and returned in the second half. Tomsula said that Bowman is fine. A knee from a Bears defensive player collided with the back of McDonald's helmet during the second quarter, causing his concussion.
LB Michael Wilhoite, who has been nursing an ankle injury and may have injured it on Sunday, is getting an MRI today. TE Garrett Celek, who was injured against the Arizona Cardinals, is meeting with doctors today to see where he is at with his high ankle sprain.
Tomsula spoke a little about RB Carlos Hyde, who is attempting to recover from a stress fracture in his left foot, saying that he did not know if he would play again this year. "I know Carlos would like to try and play," Tomsula said.
Tomsula praised QB Blaine Gabbert's performance in Chicago, saying, "We're really excited where he's at and where he's headed." He spoke of some things that the team has improved on over the course of the season. Tomsula said that offensively, things like players understanding routes and the play along the offensive line have improved. Defensively, scheme and how the players fit together has improved as well.
He even mentioned P Bradley Pinion, saying, "That was the best game that he's played this year."
