The ineffective Kaepernick was benched earlier in the week in favor of Gabbert, who until being pulled, had completed 14 of 23 passes for 172 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, which was more the fault of WR Jerome Simpson than Gabbert.
Gabbert would re-enter the game during the same drive, relieving Kaepernick who entered and left the field to boos from the Levi's Stadium fans.
