Late in the fourth quarter, San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde ran the football into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown to give his team what appeared to be the go-ahead score. It would not be enough as New York Giants QB Eli Manning would engineer an 8-play, 82-yard drive capped off with a 12-yard touchdown pass to TE Larry Donnell, giving the Giants a 30-27 victory at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

It was a heartbreaking loss for the 49ers, who have now lost four straight since their season opening victory.


San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick didn't put up phenomenal numbers, but they were good enough to nearly give his 49ers the victory. He was fairly mistake free on Sunday night, completing 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Eli Manning threw a career high 54 passes, completing 41 of them. He had 441 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

On the ground, 49ers RB Carlos Hyde had 93 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. WR Anquan Boldin led the 49ers in receiving yards with 107 and a touchdown on 8 catches.

CB Tramaine Brock had the 49ers' lone interception.

With the 49ers down 13-6 at halftime, the two teams alternated scoring during the second half. The 49ers struck first and tied the game at 13-13. The Giants then went up 20-13 in the third quarter. In the fourth, the 49ers would tie things up again at 20-20. A Giants field goal would give them a late 3-point lead before San Francisco would jump ahead 27-23. Then the Giants would need just 1:24 to secure the 30-27 victory.


Next, the 49ers will face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 18 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
