Here is what some of the San Francisco 49ers beat writers had to say about today's practice held at the team headquarters.

Matt Maiocco, CSN Bay Area:


Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch made his return to 11-on-11 work Tuesday and wasted little time providing an example of what the 49ers have been missing.

On one of his first snaps, Lynch got around the edge on a speed rush and tracked down backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert from the blind side for what would have been a sack.

Linebacker Shayne Skov was matched in coverage against rookie tight end Busta Anderson. Skov leaped into the air to make the interception of rookie Dylan Thompson's pass.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman came free on a blitz up the middle for a would-be sack of Kaepernick.

Cornerback Jimmie Ward, outside linebacker Aaron Lynch and running back Kendall Hunter all returned to team drills today.

Ward, a 2014 first-round pick who re-fractured his foot in November, was working as the third-string safety behind second-round pick Jaquiski Tartt.

Tomsula was not thrilled when the brief dust-up between Miller and Skov delayed a two-minute drill. Other reporters saw defensive tackle Tank Carradine need to be restrained from going after an unspecified teammate on the sideline.

Matt Barrows, The Sacramento Bee:

The 49ers were missing one starter, Glenn Dorsey, due to a minor injury Tuesday, but they welcomed back three likely contributors this season: running back Kendall Hunter, outside linebacker Aaron Lynch and safety Jimmie Ward.


Coming off his solid performance in Houston, Skov picked off Dylan Thompson on a downfield throw to tight end Busta Anderson (No. 48 on No. 48 crime).

Receiver Dres Anderson returned to practice but Bruce Ellington (muscle strain) continues to sit out the sessions. Another receiver, DeAndre Smelter, spent the early part of practice running sprints with a long, heavy chain tied to his waist.

Cam Inman, The Mercury News:

Carradine got into a sideline confrontation with one of his fellow defensive linemen, believed to be Mike Purcell, and Carradine had to be restrained by teammate Nick Moody.

Among those who talked to Carradine one-on-one after the incident were coach Jim Tomsula, general manager Trent Baalke and tight end Vernon Davis.


A few other scuffles took place in what's otherwise been a harmonious camp, including a little shoving between cornerback Dontae Johnson and wide receiver DiAndre Campbell after a play.

Colin Kaepernick and Torrey Smith hooked up for a deep completion, against Keith Reaser, to kick off one-on-one drills.
