In early March, there were reports that the 49ers were shopping Wilhoite to see if there was any trade potential for the linebacker. Of course, this was prior to the retirements of linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland.
In 2014, Wilhoite started all 16 games while linebackers Navorro Bowman and Willis missed time due to injuries.
49ers general manager Trent Baalke has stated that the team is working to get Wilhoite a new deal. "He's kind of in a unique situation. He was kind of caught in a numbers deal," said Baalke.
