That does not mean that he will return to the San Francisco 49ers. The Indianapolis Colts were very interested in acquiring Gore and were rumored to try and convince him to sign with them rather than the Eagles. Could the Colts, 49ers, or even another NFL team have swooped in at the last minute to get Gore?
The Eagles were said to be offering Gore a three-year deal that would average around $5 million a year with $7.5 million guaranteed over the first two seasons. That may be the number to beat, unless Gore is willing to give another team a discount to play there.
Free agency will kick off Tuesday at 1 PM Pacific and Gore will then be able to sign with any other team.
Gore has played every season with the 49ers since the team selected him in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He is the team's all-time rushing leader in yards, attempts, and touchdowns.
Gore has 11,073 career rushing yards, averaging 4.5 yards-per-carry during that time and has 64 rushing touchdowns.
Update:
According to this tweet by Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, it looks like Gore is considering whether or not the Colts are an option.
