The San Francisco 49ers had offered Fewell, the former New York Giants defensive coordinator, the defensive backs coach job on Jim Tomsula's staff. He had interviewed with the 49ers last week. However, Fewell has decided to keep his family on the East Coast and go with an offer from Washington.
The 49ers have a number of open positions on Tomsula's staff that they have had a hard time filling. The most prominent being the offensive coordinator job. The team had hoped to lure in Rob Chudzinski to fill that role, but earlier today it was reported that he would remain with the Indianapolis Colts.
