Both Maiocco and Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reported that, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers had worked out a running back earlier today.
Winston was suspended and then kicked off of the football team for two separate fights during his time at Michigan State. He spent six months behind bars on charges of assault. Since then, he has been working to get his life back on track.
The 49ers just waived injured running back Kendall Hunter, who will miss the 2014 season with a torn ACL, in order to create a roster spot. If he clears waivers, Hunter will be placed on injured reserve.
Injuries have plagued what was once the team's deepest position. LaMichael James, who had a real shot at becoming the backup to Frank Gore, will miss preseason and Marcus Lattimore has not yet been cleared to practice with the team. With their first preseason game on Thursday, the 49ers were in need of some more depth at running back.
The following is a story that aired on WLNS 6 in Lansing, Michigan about Glenn Winston.
