Tonight, the 49ers will travel to St. Louis to face the Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. The two teams last met in December of 2012 when the Rams upset the 49ers with a 16-13 overtime victory in St. Louis. The all-time series is tied at 62 games for each team. Last season, the Rams were the only NFC West team that the 49ers were unable to beat at least once. Their November matchup at Candlestick Park ended in a tie.
After two consecutive poorly played games, the 49ers are looking to rebound and get their season back on track with a win against the Rams. The 49ers' last victory came during a week one victory at home against the Green Bay Packers. The Rams have also lost two consecutive games after a week one win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers will be without linebacker Aldon Smith, their best pass rusher. Smith checked into rehab this week following his arrest for a DUI on Friday morning. It is not yet known how long the 49ers will have to play without Smith. The team placed him on the non-football injury list.
After a week one quarterback rating of 129.4, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a 20.1 rating against the Seahawks and then a 49.9 rating against the Colts. He threw 4 interceptions and no touchdowns in his last two games.
Last week, the 49ers (1-2) were defeated 27-7 by the Indianapolis Colts. The Rams (1-2) were defeated 31-7 by the Dallas Cowboys.
For the 49ers, T Anthony Davis (shoulder), TE Vernon Davis (hamstring), S Raymond Ventrone (concussion), WR Kyle Williams (rib, knee), and LB Patrick Willis (groin) are listed as questionable. LB Navorro Bowman (wrist), C Jonathan Goodwin (elbow), RB Frank Gore (knee), G Mike Iupati (shoulder), DT Ray McDonald (ankle, ankle), CB Carlos Rogers (knee), and DT Justin Smith (shoulder) are listed as probable.
For the Rams, DE William Hayes (knee) and T Rodger Saffold (knee) are out. T Joe Barksdale (not injury related), WR Chris Givens (knee), LB James Laurinaitis (foot), T Jake Long (foot), S T.J. McDonald (knee), TE Mike McNeill (chest), RB Daryl Richardson (foot), and G Chris Williams (foot) are listed as probable.
