New bag rules for NFL stadiums

If you normally take in a bag to carry your belongings while at Candlestick Park, you may want to become more familiar with the new rules put into place for this season by the NFL. In an effort to increase the safety throughout all of the league's stadiums and to make it quicker and easier to get into the stadiums, the NFL is now strongly encouraging fans not to bing in any types of bags. However, if you do need to do so, there are new requirements for all bags that pass through the stadium gates.

• Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and cannot exceed 12" x 6" x 12" in size.
• You can take in one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags.
• Small clutch bags that are approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap.
• Exceptions will be made for any medically necessary items after an inspection at the gate designated for this purpose.

All other bags are prohibited from being taken into a stadium.


The NFL has even started to offer official team branded approved bags/backpacks. These products are available on online team stores. For the San Francisco 49ers, there are four products being offered that meet the new-for-2013 public safety bag requirements.
