Team to attend Brooks' workout and fly him to California
Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers personnel director Scot McCloughan will be on hand when former Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks works out for scouts Thursday, June 22, in Charlottesville, Va. Brooks will be in the NFL Supplemental Draft July 13. Brooks will also fly to the Bay Area June 28 and have a physical with the 49ers the next day.
Hamilton may be back for training camp
Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said Friday, June 16, 49ers WR Derrick Hamilton (knee) will be on the field when training camp opens next month. Hamilton tore a ligament in his left knee last May, and then suffered a setback this winter. Nolan said Hamilton needs to be practicing to have a chance to make the team. Hamilton did not practice at the team's offseason workouts. "It sure didn't help him not to be practicing," Nolan said. "If he wants to get on the roster, he needs to play."
Newberry may be back for training camp
Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said Friday, June 16, 49ers OC Jeremy Newberry (knee) will be on the field when training camp opens next month. Newberry is recovering from microfracture surgery on his right knee. Earlier this year, Nolan said he didn't want Newberry sitting out training camp practices, as he did last summer, to avoid wear and tear on his knee. Friday, however, Nolan said he was willing to limit the center's participation the way he would any other veteran.
