The San Francisco 49ers return to the NFC Championship game for the second time in as many years, and the 14th time in franchise history, as they travel to face the Atlanta Falcons. San Francisco looks to advance to the Super Bowl for the sixth time in the franchise history and for the first time since the 1994 season.

The two clubs have met once in the postseason, with the Falcons winning 20-18 in the Divisional round, in 1998.


The 49ers (2 seed) earned a trip to the NFC Championship game with a 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional round. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick set the NFL single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback (181 yards) as he guided the 49ers to a franchise record 579 yards of offense. Kaepernick also threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Frank Gore added 119 yards and one touchdown while wide receiver Michael Crabtree hauled in nine receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

The Atlanta Falcons (1 seed) are coming off of a 30-28 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
