Gilmore has been in the league for 6 years and has only had 38 catches for 533 yards in his career. He also has 4 touchdowns. He was coached by current 49ers receivers coach Jerry Sullivan in Arizona from 2001-03 and in Miami in 2004.
From 49ers.com:
"Our wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan has a history with Bryan," said head coach Mike Nolan. "He feels he is a young receiver with a huge upside. He is a big, strong receiver with speed who is physical and will contribute. I am looking forward to adding Bryan to our receiving unit."
49ers pursue safety Chris Hope
The team also hopes to visit with free safety Chris Hope, a member of Pittsburgh's Super Bowl-winning team.
When asked if the team is pursuing Hope and whether he be coming in for a visit, Nolan said, "Yes we are. I don't have it set. I anticipate it in the next few days." (49ers.com)
Last season, Hope had 96 tackles in 16 games with 3 interceptions. He has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh and would be a big addition to the 49ers secondary. According to Nolan, Hope will visit this week (Source: FOX Sports).
Andre Carter agrees to a 6-year, $30 million contract with Redskins
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Andre Carter will sign a 6-year, $30 million contract with the Washington Redskins today. Carter was drafted by the 49ers in 2001 and has spent his entire career with the team. This is a tough loss for a 49ers team that already expects to lose linebacker Julian Peterson. Although, Nolan still has hope that the team will be able to sign Peterson who has not drawn the free agent attention that was expected.
Beasley to Miami?
It has been made clear that the 49ers have no interest in re-signing fullback Fred Beasley. Beasley is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins.
