The team has offered Smith a 3-year, $24 million deal with $10 million guaranteed. The only other team that showed some interest was Miami and it was announced minutes ago that the Dolphins signed David Garrard, eliminating some of the leverage that Smith may have had.
Maiocco adds the following quote from team CEO Jed York:
"We have a contract on the table and it's up to him. We'd like for him (Alex Smith) to be here, and we'll see where it goes."
When asked if he expects Smith to be his quarterback, York added:
"I hope he is."
