The San Francisco 49ers gained quarterback David Carr but lost tackle Tony Pashos and receiver Arnaz Battle last offseason. By the NFL's formula, based on the ratio of signed to departed players from last year, the 49ers were awarded two compensatory picks in the 2011 NFL Draft bringing their total number of selections to a league-high 12.

The team was given the 238th and 249th overall selections, both of which are in the seventh round.


Compensatory picks cannot be traded. However, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee believes that the 49ers have enough selections to possibly move up in the Draft, something the team did do in 2010.

The 12 selections in the 2011 NFL Draft give the 49ers the most draft picks they have had during one Draft since 1991, when the team had 13. Those selections included players like Ted Washington, Ricky Watters, and Merton Hanks.
