The San Francisco 49ers have ruled out wide receiver Christian Kirk for Sunday's Week 9 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. However, his longer-term availability remains uncertain after an injury he suffered in practice.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that Kirk sustained a meniscus injury during Thursday's practice. The 49ers are still determining whether the veteran wide receiver will require surgery.

"We're not sure yet. Still trying to decide," Shanahan said.

When asked whether Kirk had torn his meniscus, Shanahan simply responded, "I don't know. It said, 'meniscus.'"

The 49ers activated Kirk from injured reserve on October 24 following a lengthy recovery from a calf injury. He has appeared in just one game since joining the active roster, recording no catches in San Francisco's Week 7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Shanahan noted that the 49ers will most likely activate wide receiver Demarcus Robinson from injured reserve on Saturday. Robinson has been working his way back from an ankle injury and could make his return against the Raiders.
