Will the San Francisco 49ers make a move before the NFL trade deadline? General manager John Lynch offered no hints about the team's plans during his Friday morning interview with Bay Area radio station KNBR. However, he acknowledged that trade discussions are heating up as the deadline approaches.

Lynch was asked whether he has been making and receiving more calls around the league.

"Just because the flow of the trade deadline is approaching, yes," Lynch admitted. "I mean, that's our job, is to do that, to talk with our counterparts around the league. We receive calls, we make calls, just to kind of see where the market's at, and I think the answer to that is yes, and we're just doing our jobs."

One player frequently linked to the 49ers is Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack. Lynch was asked whether the team is actively exploring a move to acquire the veteran defender. Mack has three sacks this season for the 0-5 Chargers.

"I can't tell you that," Lynch said, laughing. "A lot of people ask me that. We seem to be connected to everyone, and I don't know where that comes from. I had a player ask me that yesterday."

When asked which player had inquired about Mack, Lynch initially hesitated to reveal his identity before admitting it was tight end George Kittle.

"It's usually Kittle because he asks about everything, which I love," Lynch said.

The 49ers are frequently linked to high-profile players who could become available before the trade deadline. Those connections are understandable, given San Francisco's injuries at several positions, including along the defensive line and at wide receiver.

Despite those challenges, the 49ers remain undefeated and sit atop the NFC West standings. Whether Lynch and the front office make a significant move to strengthen the roster remains to be seen as the trade deadline draws closer.
