The move comes as the 49ers prepare for their Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders at Levi's Stadium on Monday night.
San Francisco will be without linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who is serving a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from his sideline actions during Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers will also be without linebacker Garret Wallow, who is dealing with a hamstring strain and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks.
The Miami Dolphins signed Asante (6-1, 219) as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn following the 2025 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, he spent time on the practice squads or offseason rosters of the Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Atlanta Falcons.
Asante later joined the Houston Gamblers of the United Football League before signing with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2026 NFL preseason.
He has not yet appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
Asante began his college career at North Carolina, where he played from 2019-2021, before transferring to Auburn for the 2022-2024 seasons. Across 65 college games, he recorded 196 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries (including one returned for a touchdown), two passes defensed, and one forced fumble.
