The San Francisco 49ers got some encouraging injury news Thursday. Cornerback Upton Stout, who is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered against the Denver Broncos, returned to practice as the team prepares for its Week 5 clash with the Seattle Seahawks.

Stout wore a no-contact jersey, but his return to the field for on-field work is a reason for optimism.

Wide receiver Mike Evans played through a rib injury against the Broncos and clearly struggled to make it through the game. He still recorded five catches for a game-high 76 receiving yards.

The 49ers are being cautious with Evans this week. He was seen working on the side early in Thursday's practice. Reporters must leave the practice area before team drills begin.

Other observations from the early portion of practice included defensive lineman Mykel Williams, who looked ready to contribute. Williams remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list but expects to be activated ahead of Sunday's game.

Like Evans, defensive end Nick Bosa worked on the side. However, he is not expected to play this weekend as he continues to recover from a calf injury.
