San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters ahead of Wednesday's practice, the team's first of the week as it prepares for its Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

The 49ers are dealing with several injuries, and Shanahan identified several players who would either miss or be limited during Wednesday's practice.

Meanwhile, Shanahan was asked if White's hamstring injury could force him to miss time. The defensive end's setback is a new development.

"Hope not, but it's a hamstring, and it's keeping him out today," Shanahan said.

Evans suffered his rib injury in the 49ers' Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Shanahan previously said the team would evaluate Evans throughout the week. He was asked whether he expects the veteran wide receiver to practice in the coming days.

"He may," Shanahan answered. "Not today, and hopefully, later in the week."

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw is hoping his quad injury doesn't keep him sidelined against the Broncos, the team he spent last season with. There is also a natural storyline surrounding Greenlaw facing his former team after Denver moved on from him.

"I think the main thing is him just fully healing up to get out there," Shanahan said. "He's not good enough for [practice] today, but hopefully, he will be later in the week. I mean, yeah, Dre's going to be excited for this one, but it's hard to say that Dre isn't as excited as he could possibly be every single week he plays football, so it's hard to think that he can do more because he's always ready to go."

Shanahan on decision to reunite with Dante Pettis

The 49ers are reuniting with former second-round draft pick Dante Pettis, signing the wide receiver to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Pettis spent his first three seasons with the 49ers before playing for the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.

Many assumed the 49ers soured on Pettis during his first stint with the team. Shanahan was asked about the thought process behind bringing him back.

"There was no relationship issue," Shanahan shared. "That was just how it worked out, and I think people get confused sometimes with saying people are in the doghouse and things like that. People, I think, sometimes get that confused with just coaching.

"But I've always loved Dante. Dante's a great dude. He's got a lot of ability, done some really good things, since we let him go, in other places. And so, we tried to bring him back during training camp, when we had some guys down, and tried again this time, and this time it worked out."

Shanahan noted that this wasn't the first time the 49ers had explored a reunion with Pettis.

"We tried to bring him in to camp one time," Shanahan said. "And then, obviously, Mike going down, losing some receivers the last few weeks, we needed to add a guy to the practice squad, and we were pumped he was available."

49ers open practice window for Mykel Williams

The 49ers are opening the practice window for second-year defensive lineman Mykel Williams, who is recovering from an ACL injury. The team could certainly use additional depth along the defensive front, which has been hit hard by injuries, including the loss of star pass rusher Nick Bosa to a calf injury.

Williams isn't eligible to be activated until after the Broncos game, so he won't contribute in Week 4. However, the 49ers will ramp him up in practice, aiming to make him available as soon as possible—as long as it makes sense.

Shanahan revealed this week's plan for Williams.

"Mykel, just to mix him in today," Shanahan said. "Today will be his first day back in a year, so he probably won't go full speed today, too, just with the amount of plays that we got on Sunday. But a big first day for him just to get back in there."
