Warner finished with a team-high 11 tackles and was the game's highest-graded player, according to analytics site Pro Football Focus.
The impressive performance came as no surprise to Warner's teammates, including fellow linebacker Luke Gifford, who joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Tuesday and praised his defensive leader.
His performance against the Rams made it clear Warner is showing no signs of slowing down in his ninth NFL season.
"The only reason it doesn't amaze me is because I get to see him every day, and the way he works and goes about his business," Gifford said. "Honestly, he's the best football player I've ever been on the field with. It's pretty cool to be able to see him do things the way he does and then have it translate to the field."
Warner has recorded 18 forced fumbles over his career, including one against the Rams last week. The linebacker has worked hard to perfect punching the football out to create turnovers, and his success is evident on game day.
Of course, Gifford sees it every day in practice.
"Nothing really surprises me about that guy," Gifford said. "He makes plays like that every day in practice. Specifically punching the ball out, that's something that he literally does on every rep.
"We had a punch-out counter in our linebacker room this year during camp to see who threw the most punches at the ball, and Fred won by about 40, I think. So, that's just who he is.
"And it's funny. We always joke about the coaches aren't counting our punches. We're like, 'There's no way. That's not even possible.' But sure enough, Fred always wins, and it's no surprise that he does what he does on the field, because he truly is just one of the best, for sure."
Warner's Week 1 performance offered an early reminder of why he remains such an important part of the 49ers' defense. If his season opener is any indication, he appears poised to add yet another remarkable season to his résumé.
