The 49ers traveled to Melbourne to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. San Francisco defeated its NFC West rival 27-7, opening the 2026 season with a 1-0 record.
The 49ers arrived in Melbourne nearly a week ahead of the Rams, giving the team time to adjust to the 17-hour time difference. Players also had time to explore the city and enjoyed a warm welcome from local fans.
That welcome carried over into the game.
"I think the fact that we were here a week early, everyone obviously heard about it, and I think when we jogged out there today and stuff, we definitely felt the love from all the Australians that were pulling for us and stuff," quarterback Brock Purdy said after the game.
The 49ers won't play again until Sunday, September 20, when they host the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium. The team isn't expected to return to the practice field until next week, giving players time to re-acclimate to their home time zone following the long trip back from Australia.
