The San Francisco 49ers saw promising rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling leave for the locker room on a cart after suffering an ankle injury.

Stribling was initially injured toward the end of the first quarter and was quickly listed as questionable to return with a left ankle injury. However, he returned to the field.

That return proved to be short-lived.

Stribling went down again in the second quarter while favoring the same ankle. Unable to put pressure on it, Stribling was helped off the field by 49ers staff and taken into the blue medical tent for further examination.

Stribling eventually had to be carted to the locker room and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The 49ers will have to hope the injury isn't as serious as it appeared. Stribling was the team's top draft pick and was expected to contribute early after standing out during training camp and the preseason.

The potential loss of Stribling would be significant for a revamped 49ers receiving corps that also features the arrival of Mike Evans and the return of Deebo Samuel.
