The San Francisco 49ers have found themselves in the offseason headlines for several of the wrong reasons. There was the drama surrounding disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, a car accident involving head coach Kyle Shanahan, and the arrest of team owner Jed York in Ohio during a prostitution sting.

The latter development has the potential to impact the organization significantly. However, 49ers general manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Tuesday morning and said that, from a football standpoint, not much has changed.


"I think, what I would tell you, it feels like business as usual," Lynch said.

The 49ers have also lost their chief contract negotiator, executive vice president of football operations, and president of 49ers Enterprises, Paraag Marathe, who departed the organization to focus full-time on his leadership roles with overseas soccer clubs.

Lynch noted that the 49ers had been preparing for the transition away from Marathe for years as his responsibilities outside the organization continued to grow.

"We kind of knew this day would come, because this is an all-in business where you have to be completely all in," Lynch commented.

Lynch acknowledged that York's situation has had a different impact on the 49ers because of the owner's daily involvement with the organization.


"Jed being in Ohio, a little different because he's been a very day-to-day type owner, and so that's been an adjustment," Lynch said. "But our communication has stayed great. Obviously, with what happened, like I said last week, that's a very personal thing. But the Yorks are very good people, and they're tremendous owners, I'll tell you that. They give us every resource we need to be successful. That won't change."

Al Guido was promoted to CEO of the 49ers after York became the team's principal owner, providing the organization with stable long-term leadership.

"Al's the CEO, runs the business," Lynch said. "Kyle and I are running football like kind of we have for the last 10 years, and our staffs are phenomenal. And so, everything's good, is what I would tell you. It's all good, and we feel very comfortable, and change is the norm in the NFL. So we're kind of accustomed to it.

"I understand what it feels like from afar, but what I would tell you is, I think we're functioning at a high level, and we're excited for a really productive season for good reason."
