49ers lose a starting cornerback to a hamstring injury during Thursday night's preseason matchup against the Chargers.

The San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL preseason. Here is the latest 49ers injury news from the Niners' second preseason game, which began with a hamstring injury to 49ers starting outside cornerback Renardo Green.

Offensive lineman Austen Pleasants was also forced from action after sustaining an undisclosed injury to his right knee, while second-year linebacker Nick Martin exited the game late after appearing to injure his hamstring. The extent of each player's injury had yet to be determined by the 49ers' training staff by the end of the game, and head coach Kyle Shanahan explained during his post-game press conference that each player's injury would require imaging on Friday before it could be properly assessed.

This article will be updated during and after the game as information becomes available.

Players are listed in order of the most recent news on their injury.

CB Renardo Green (hamstring, questionable)

Green left Thursday's game with a hamstring injury after defending a deep pass in the first quarter. The 49ers initially listed Green as questionable, but given the preseason setting, a return to the field is highly unlikely. Fellow defensive back Jack Jones, who exited last week's game early due to a hand injury, replaced Green at outside cornerback.

Update: As expected, Green did not return to action during Thursday's contest.

OL Austen Pleasants (knee, out)

Backup offensive lineman Austen Pleasants was forced to leave Thursday's game due to a right knee injury as the team experimented with the veteran lineman filling in at left guard. Shanahan stated that the 49ers' training staff did not believe Pleasants injured his ACL, and would know more after testing on Friday.

LB Nick Martin (hamstring, did not return)

Linebacker Nick Martin, just a few plays removed from forcing a fumble on a Chargers kickoff return, left the field with an apparent hamstring injury, and did not have an opportunity to return. Like his teammates, Martin's status will be further clarified once he returns to the team's Santa Clara, California, training facility tomorrow.
