The 49ers and Chargers practiced against each other at The Bolt, the Chargers' practice facility in El Segundo, California. After the session, Thompson spoke with reporters and was asked how he thought the practice went.
"It was a lot of fun. We tore them up," Thompson said.
His comment drew cheers from the Chargers season-ticket holders in attendance.
When asked how many touchdowns he had against the 49ers, Thompson confidently responded, "I lost count, honestly."
"But yeah, I think, like [C] Jake [Slaughter] said, this is the closest thing we're going to get to a real game," Thompson continued. "So, really just diving into the details and then, obviously, running our plays versus not [our] team, not our defense, and [S] Derwin [James]. I enjoyed that part of it. I think the intensity was really what I enjoyed the most."
Of course, it was just a practice, so not too much should be read into the results. The 49ers and Chargers will face each other in an exhibition game at SoFi Stadium on Thursday night. The two teams will meet again at the same venue in Week 15 of the regular season.
One player who wasn't particularly pleased with the 49ers' performance during the joint practice was quarterback Brock Purdy.
"Honestly, I don't think it was our best day," Purdy said. "I feel like fundamentals and stuff were just a little off and whatnot. Obviously there was some good stuff, some stuff we need to work on, but I just feel like we could have come out with a little bit more chip on our shoulder, offensively."
