"He's a great listener," defensive coordinator Raheem Morris said in June. "He's a great note taker. He's really locked in. He's one of the guys that wants to go out and absolutely do it at a very high level every single day. He puts an extreme amount of pressure on himself to be great for his room and for himself.
"I've got to find out what his internal why is, but whatever his why is, man, I love it."
NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks recently named the defensive players on his 2026 NFL All-Breakout Team, with Stout earning a spot among the defenders poised to make noise this season.
"Old-school players will tell you the nickel position is reserved for defenders with a supreme combination of instincts and athleticism that enables them to create big plays in various ways," Brooks wrote. "Stout certainly fit the bill as a rookie in 2025. Whether swatting passes away, punching the ball out, or blitzing off the edge, Stout flashed star qualities manning the slot."
The 49ers selected Stout in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he quickly carved out a major role, playing 58% of the team's defensive snaps while gaining valuable experience.
"He finished third on the 49ers with 82 tackles, excelling as a 'see ball, get ball' playmaker," Brooks added. "He could further develop into a true difference-maker for a San Francisco squad with championship aspirations."
In addition to recording 82 tackles, Stout finished his rookie season with four tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, five passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one sack in 16 games, including four starts.
If Stout's development continues to trend upward, the 49ers could have one of the NFL's emerging stars at nickel corner—a player capable of making the game-changing plays that can elevate the defense this year and beyond.
