While both recovering players are expected to contribute in 2026, reinforcing the defensive front became a clear offseason priority. The 49ers acquired defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa via trade. They added two defensive linemen in the NFL Draft, selecting edge rusher Romello Height in the third round and defensive tackle Gracen Halton in the fourth.
Still, San Francisco may not be finished upgrading its pass rush.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently identified the best landing spots for several veteran defensive free agents ahead of training camp and believes the 49ers are an ideal fit for veteran edge rusher Kyle Van Noy.
"Over the past three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, he's morphed into a very productive rotational edge-rusher," Knox wrote. "In three seasons with Baltimore, Van Noy recorded 23.5 sacks and 54 quarterback pressures. Adding Van Noy would be a sensible move for the San Francisco 49ers."
Knox believes Van Noy could provide an immediate boost to the 49ers' pass rush while strengthening the team's chances of remaining a playoff contender.
The interest appears to be mutual.
Earlier this offseason, Van Noy revealed that he would welcome the opportunity to join the 49ers, citing the chance to play alongside All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner.
"I'd really like to play with my little brother, Fred Warner, with the 49ers," Van Noy said. "I think they got something cooking over there ... But I would love to play with my little brother. That's my guy, and I think they got something cooking over there."
Van Noy did not indicate whether the 49ers have contacted him, but his enthusiasm about the possibility of playing under head coach Kyle Shanahan is clear. If San Francisco comes calling with a serious offer, the veteran pass rusher would likely welcome the opportunity.
