Many have wondered why San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk hasn't appeared to receive guidance from his agent amid his recent string of controversial social media posts—actions that have hurt his reputation and market value.

On Friday, Aiyuk shed light on the situation, revealing that he is currently without representation.


"I terminated my SRA (Standard Representation Agreement) with my previous agent through the NFLPA last year, in November," Aiyuk said on Instagram.


That previous agent was Ryan Williams of Athletes First, who represented Aiyuk when he signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the 49ers in 2024.

The revelation helps explain why there hasn't appeared to be anyone advising Aiyuk on how his actions during his recovery from ACL and MCL injuries—and his recent social media activity—have damaged his reputation around the league.

Aiyuk is hoping to force the 49ers to release him, believing the Washington Commanders would be ready to sign him. Whether that's actually the case remains to be seen.

For now, the wide receiver remains on San Francisco's reserve/left squad list, and ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently reported that Aiyuk has yet to file the paperwork necessary for reinstatement.


"He's lighting money on fire, is what he's doing, every time he puts an Instagram video out," Fowler said on NFL Live. "He is on the left squad list for the 49ers still. To get off that list, he has to apply to Commissioner Roger Goodell, he has to file paperwork. I'm told that hasn't happened."

Fowler added that whenever Aiyuk is released, he will likely have to settle for a veteran-minimum contract if he hopes to rebuild his reputation and continue his NFL career.
