On Wednesday, the veteran offensive lineman—widely regarded as one of the greatest tackles in NFL history—was asked for his reaction to the Rams' blockbuster acquisition of Garrett.
"Same as everybody," Williams said with a laugh. "Everybody that's not in Rams country."
He then summed up his feelings in two words: "It sucks."
Garrett is coming off a dominant 2025 season in which he recorded an NFL record 23 sacks, further cementing his status as one of the league's most disruptive defenders. Williams knows the challenge Garrett presents.
"Myles, the scary part is he's still a young player, so he's still going to get better," Williams said. "I know it's scary after seeing what he did last year. I'm never expecting to run into the same player. I know that we see him Week 1 in Australia. He probably will be a little bit better than he was the last time I seen him.
"Just got to buckle up. It's going to be tough. I ain't the only one got to block him. There's 31 other teams that got that same news, so it is what it is."
The 49ers will break early after canceling next week's mandatory minicamp. They will return in late July for training camp. Once training camp wraps up, Williams and San Francisco's offensive line will begin preparing to face the NFL's most dominant pass rusher.
