The Miami Dolphins selected McMorris (6-0, 206) out of the University of California in the sixth round (No. 198 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season with the Dolphins before stints with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants during the 2025 season.
As a rookie in 2024, McMorris appeared in six games for Miami, primarily contributing on special teams while recording one tackle.
McMorris did not appear in a game during the 2025 season, moving on and off practice squads throughout the year.
The 49ers continue to add depth to their secondary this offseason after not selecting a safety in the 2026 NFL Draft.
"We've got a group that we really do like," general manager John Lunch said on Saturday. "But kind of the way the board fell, it just didn't work out."
McMorris will compete for a roster spot as a depth piece and will likely need to stand out on special teams to secure a role.
