Shanahan's response echoed comments he made earlier in the offseason.
"Yeah," Shanahan said. "I mean, I'd be real surprised if he's not. It also really surprised me that no one came and offered something, like today."
There was speculation heading into the draft that Jones could be traded if another team made a compelling enough offer. However, it's unlikely any team valued Jones as highly as the 49ers, who reportedly would have required a significant return to move the quarterback.
Jones has already shown his value to San Francisco after a solid performance last season while Brock Purdy recovered from a turf toe injury. He helped keep the 49ers competitive during that stretch, providing stability under center and contributing to the team's push for a playoff spot before Purdy returned.
"But the fact that no one did (make an offer) doesn't make me think someone's going to do something tomorrow ... and his value's probably already passed anyways," Shanahan added.
The 49ers will now make their first selection in the 2026 NFL Draft at the top of Round 2 on Friday and currently hold seven total picks.
Updated 49ers selections in the 2026 NFL Draft:
- Round 2, pick 1 (33 overall)
- Round 2, pick 26 (58)
- Round 3, pick 26 (90)
- Round 4, pick 27 (127)
- Round 4, pick 33 (133)
- Round 4, pick 39 (139)
- Round 5, pick 39 (179)
