The 49ers reached the Super Bowl that season—Purdy's second in the NFL—but ultimately fell short of capturing a championship.
Garcia recently joined the Tales to Triumph podcast and was asked whether he believes Purdy has what it takes to lead the 49ers back to the Super Bowl—and win it.
"I really do because he is really the epitome of what I see in a quarterback and how a quarterback plays—his decision making, his anticipation, his footwork," Garcia said, per Henry Cheal of Sports Illustrated.
"You see how he translates his footwork into the process of information that is going through his mind. Where he goes in the final stages of his drop is because he's eliminated either the number one or two choices, or he's defined that 'my number one is gonna be on time and going to the spot and I'm gonna throw him open.'"
49ers offense set for changes in 2026
Purdy's supporting cast will look different in 2026. The 49ers added veteran wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, but are expected to move on from Brandon Aiyuk and could also lose Jauan Jennings.
Additionally, Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore are no longer on the roster, while tight end George Kittle continues to recover from an Achilles injury.
Despite the turnover, Garcia remains confident in Purdy's ability to elevate the offense.
"He's one of the better quarterbacks in the league in processing information and throwing receivers open," Garcia added.
Purdy's recent production
Purdy was limited to nine games last season, throwing for 2,167 yards with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He added 402 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in two playoff appearances.
If Purdy can stay healthy and quickly build chemistry with his revamped supporting cast, the 49ers could once again position themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
