Having all four NFC West teams ranked in the top four highlights just how competitive the division could be in 2026. Three of those teams reached the playoffs last season, with the Seahawks ultimately emerging as the Super Bowl champions.
San Francisco took a more aggressive approach in free agency compared to last year, adding veteran wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, re-signing linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to strengthen the roster on both sides of the ball.
Orr believes Evans' presence could open up opportunities for other offensive weapons.
"I am on record: The Mike Evans deal is my favorite signing of free agency," Orr acknowledged. "While the 49ers will have to duel with the electrical substation to keep this aging roster on the field together, Evans takes a defender out of the box and lets Christian McCaffrey cook on the ground."
Despite the strong ranking, the 49ers still have key areas to address. The team must solidify the left side of the offensive line, identifying a starting left guard and reworking left tackle Trent Williams' contract. Additional needs include more wide receiver depth, pass rush help, and perhaps reinforcements in the secondary.
The San Francisco 49ers will likely turn to the 2026 NFL Draft to fill several of those needs, leaving open the possibility of climbing even higher in future power rankings.
