San Francisco's wide receiver room could undergo significant changes this offseason. Brandon Aiyuk is on his way out, while Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, and Skyy Moore are all slated to become free agents.
With multiple potential departures, the 49ers could look to bolster the position group through both free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.
"Help is needed, for sure," Breer wrote. "Along those lines, I've heard they have an interest in both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs on the free-agent market. And failing that, there's a deep class in the draft, with Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. sticking out as a nice fit for San Francisco."
Either receiver could provide an immediate boost to the 49ers' passing attack.
Pierce is coming off his first 1,000-yard season and has totaled 13 touchdowns over the past two years. He averaged an NFL-leading 22.3 yards per reception in 2024 and followed that with another league-best mark of 21.3 in 2025, highlighting his big-play ability as a vertical threat.
Pierce (6-3, 211) turns 26 in May and has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Doubs (6-2, 204) entered the league in the same 2022 NFL Draft class as Pierce. He'll turn 26 in April and has spent the past four seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
Doubs is coming off a career-best 724-yard season in 2025. He has also recorded 18 receiving touchdowns over the past three years.
