Crosby revealed Friday that he has joined the ownership group of Leeds United, a professional soccer club based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, that competes in the Premier League. Leeds United Americas shared the NFL star's social media post sharing the news.
So how does that connect Crosby to the 49ers?
In May 2018, 49ers Enterprises purchased a minority stake in Leeds United. The investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers later increased its involvement in 2023, buying the remaining shares, and team executive Paraag Marathe now serves as the club's chairman.
That means Crosby and the 49ers' ownership group now share a business relationship through Leeds United.
While the connection is notable, it is likely to have little direct impact on Crosby's NFL future. The five-time Pro Bowler's relationship with his current team, the Las Vegas Raiders, has reportedly grown strained, fueling speculation that a trade is inevitable.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are in clear need of pass-rush help after finishing the 2025 season with an NFL-low 20 total sacks. Naturally, that has led analysts and fans to link San Francisco to any elite edge rusher who might become available — including Crosby.
However, acquiring a player of his caliber might come at a steep price.
While Las Vegas still hopes to keep Crosby on its roster, it would reportedly seek compensation comparable to last year's blockbuster trade involving Micah Parsons if a deal were forced. In that trade, the Dallas Cowboys received two first-round picks and a player from the Green Bay Packers.
Still, not everyone believes Crosby would command that type of return.
"Do I think they are getting two firsts and a player? No," ESPN's Adam Schefter recently stated.
What might it realistically take?
"Any deal involving Maxx Crosby, I would think for the Raiders to make that deal, would take a first-round pick at minimum," Schefter added.
