Blake Brockermeyer released his latest 2026 NFL mock draft for CBS Sports. While some projections have the San Francisco 49ers going in other directions, Brockermeyer believes head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch should prioritize one of the team's most pressing needs: the defensive line.

In his mock, Brockermeyer has the 49ers selecting Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods with the No. 27 overall pick, a move aimed at strengthening a defensive front that struggled in 2025. Injuries played a significant role in those struggles, but reinforcing the trenches remains a clear offseason priority.


"Peter Woods looks the part and has impressive traits, but he didn't have the season many expected," Brockermeyer wrote. "He still shows good power and leverage against double-teams and flashes quickness on stunts and games."

Woods' Pro Football Focus grades have declined each season, beginning with an 87.6 overall defensive grade in 2023 and falling to 72.2 in 2025. His run-defense grade dipped from 88.6 to 74.2 over that span, while his pass-rush grade declined from 75.9 to 65.5.

Despite the downturn in grades, Brockermeyer sees potential in Woods. He has tallied five sacks in his past two seasons.

Over his three seasons at Clemson, Woods (6-3, 310) has totaled 84 tackles, including 14.5 for a loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass defensed.

The 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 23, in Pittsburgh.
