According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the San Francisco 49ers are adding veteran linebacker Kyzir White ahead of their Wild Card playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Los Angeles Chargers selected White in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of West Virginia. He later spent time with the Eagles in 2022 and the Arizona Cardinals from 2023–24, and was most recently on the Tennessee Titans' practice squad this season before being released on December 8.

Over eight NFL seasons, White has compiled 618 total tackles, including 34 tackles for loss, along with 20 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks, six interceptions, 23 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He has appeared in 93 games, making 73 starts.

The signing addresses a growing need at linebacker for San Francisco as it heads into the postseason. Tatum Bethune suffered a groin tear in Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks and has been ruled out for the playoffs. Veteran Eric Kendricks is expected to start in his place, while Dee Winters (ankle) and Luke Gifford (quad) are also dealing with injuries this week.

Star linebacker Fred Warner suffered a dislocated and fractured right ankle in Week 6 and could return for the playoffs. However, the earliest it is expected to happen is the NFC Championship Game—if the 49ers advance that far.
