On 4th and 6, from their own 24-yard line, Purdy dropped back to pass and was sandwiched between two pass rushers. He looked like he was in a lot of pain, staying on the ground for a while, before being helped to his feet. Purdy jogged off the field on his own, and he was asked about the injury after the game.
"I feel good," Purdy said. "Just got hit, and the left shoulder sort of lit up, so feel good right now. We'll see how I feel tomorrow." Purdy said it felt like a stinger, which he has suffered before.
On Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport, of NFL Network, continued to put the 49ers fanbase at ease by saying Purdy is not expected to miss next week's postseason game for San Francisco.
"Late, late, late in that game, Brock Purdy got crunched," Rapoport said Sunday on NFL Gameday Morning. "I believe it was on a fourth down, went down in pain immediately, headed to the blue tent, giving every 49er fan a significant scare. That said, after the game, Head Coach Kyle Shanahan said it was just a stinger for Brock Purdy, a left shoulder stinger.
"Basically, what that is is a temporary nerve injury. Hurts a lot. Then it clears up. He has had it in the past. Shanahan saying Brock Purdy should be fine. Missed eight games this season, and frustrating from that standpoint. Not expected to keep him out next week."
Despite last night's offensive mess, the 49ers' offense is much more efficient and explosive with Purdy in the game. His backup, Mac Jones, played admirably while Purdy was out for almost half the season, but Shanahan's offense clicks better with Purdy on the field. The 49ers will need a healthy Purdy on Sunday to win what will be a difficult game on the road.
The 49ers will find out later on Sunday which seed they will be, as well as where and when they will play.
