Brock Purdy delivered one of the most impressive performances by a quarterback in San Francisco 49ers history during Monday night's win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Purdy became the first 49ers quarterback to throw five touchdown passes in a game since Steve Young in Super Bowl XXIX and the first to do so in the regular season since Joe Montana's franchise-record six touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons in 1990.


That places Purdy in elite company.

"It's an honor to be able to play for this organization with guys like Joe Montana, Steve Young, and to be able to be out here wearing the same uniform," Purdy told Lisa Salters after the game. "I'm just a kid living the dream."

Purdy finished the night 25-of-34 for 295 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. His 126.8 passer rating marked the third time since returning from injury in Week 11 that he has reached at least that number.

According to ESPN, Purdy completed a career-high 12 passes of 10 or more yards, becoming the first 49ers quarterback to do so since Brian Hoyer recorded 12 against the Colts in 2017. Purdy's two deep touchdown passes on Monday night also matched his total from his previous six starts combined.


Head coach Kyle Shanahan had high praise for his quarterback following the game.


"He did awesome, man," Shanahan said. "Played really well. I got on him for a couple he missed, but it was pretty close to a perfect game, so he did a hell of a job."

When asked which throws he critiqued, Shanahan laughed and said, "Whatever those incompletions were."

Despite the eye-popping stat line, Shanahan emphasized that Purdy's performance was consistent with what he has shown throughout his NFL career.

"I think he's playing pretty consistent to how he's played," Shanahan said. "I think Brock's played at a pretty high level since he's gotten into this league, and I honestly think he's playing very well. But I think he's always played pretty good."

Tight end George Kittle echoed that sentiment during his postgame press conference.


"I think he's operating at an incredibly high level," Kittle said. "I thought he looked really good last week against Tennessee. I mean, he did a lot less running around today, too, than he did last week, so he has a bunch of different elements to his game that allow him to be a really good quarterback and play at a super high level for us."

While Purdy acknowledged the significance of his five-touchdown night, he stressed that the team result mattered most.

"Yeah, it was cool," Purdy said. "To be out here playing against Philip Rivers and the Colts—they're a great team. But just more than anything, just taking it one drive at a time. And as an offense, just having a standard and trying to play with that standard, and with the guys that we have out there.

"So to go out and execute like we did, and just keep doing that, just really proud of those guys—just everybody—and our team. Defense getting stops at clutch moments and the turnover at the end of the game to seal it with Dee Winters.

"It just feels good to play together as a team and win on the road, tough environment, Monday Night Football, Philip Rivers."
