Aiyuk had been rehabbing the ACL and MCL injuries he suffered in October 2024, and the 49ers initially hoped he would contribute at some point this season. However, the team has had little contact with the receiver for some time.
"We haven't seen him forever," head coach Kyle Shanahan recently revealed.
He added, "I mean, I haven't seen him in a month. And same with our team."
In July, the 49ers voided Aiyuk's guaranteed money for the 2026 season, fueling speculation that a split between the player and the organization could be approaching. Aiyuk reportedly failed to participate in team-directed rehab or meetings, as expected.
While he is no longer with the team, Aiyuk made it clear this week that he remains in the Bay Area. He posted a video on YouTube showing himself driving in excess of 100 mph past Levi's Stadium, the 49ers' home venue.
According to Niners Wire, the vehicle appears to be a recently purchased Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
"That's not a highway he's on," Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated noted. "It'd be HARD to get up over 100 on that street."
The footage has sparked growing concern about Aiyuk's well-being. One 49ers beat writer, Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated, publicly appealed for someone—whether the team or Aiyuk's agent—to check in on the receiver. After all, the whole situation has seemed unusual.
