Gay steps in for regular kicker Eddy Piñeiro, who suffered a hamstring injury last week against the Arizona Cardinals and was officially ruled out on Saturday. San Francisco will also be without starting linebacker Tatum Bethune, who will miss the game due to an ankle injury.
Kickoff between the 49ers and Panthers is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. PT at Levi's Stadium.
