Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters ahead of Wednesday's practice, offering his thoughts on how both players can contribute to the 49ers' defensive front.
"We need D-linemen with all our guys injured," Shanahan said of the trade for White. "Also, regardless, he would help to any team. I thought he was a problem when we played against them last year. I really liked what he does on film, too."
Shanahan emphasized White's versatility, noting that his ability to play multiple positions along the line will be valuable.
"He can play D-end, and then, he can rush inside, so a versatile guy," Shanahan explained.
As for Ferrell, Shanahan expressed excitement about reuniting with a familiar face. The veteran defensive end started all 17 games for San Francisco in 2023 during his first stint with the team.
"I love the chance to get Cle back," Shanahan said. "Having a guy like that being available. We'll see him out there today when we go, but we loved having Cle here back in '23, and glad he got back here last night."
Ferrell also spoke to reporters ahead of practice, sharing his enthusiasm about returning to the 49ers, reuniting with defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, and his eagerness to play some of his best football.
