On Monday morning, Warner addressed fans on Instagram, promising a "legendary" return to the field.
"There's certain games you wake up knowing it's gonna be your day, and yesterday was one of those days. I knew I was bout to go off, and then boom, everything over in one instant that was completely unpreventable. The love everyone has shown me and the prayers being had for me mean the world to me.
"Some ask why I was able to smile on the cart heading in and it's because (aside from the shock) I have complete peace in knowing God's plan is so completely perfect and I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. I've had the privilege of being able to have a very healthy 8 seasons and now it's time to inspire through the comeback I'm bout to have. It will be LEGENDARY and right on time, God willing. Thank you guys, love always GO NINERS."
Warner's absence will leave a massive void on San Francisco's roster. Widely regarded as one of the best players in the NFL, his loss might be the most impactful injury the 49ers have faced this season.
Veteran tackle Trent Williams expressed the emotional toll Warner's injury had on the team.
"It's heartbreaking," Williams said after the game. "Fred, not only is he one of the best linebackers to ever play the game, but he's the heart and soul of this team, not just the heart and soul of this defense. It's one thing to see somebody go down and go to the blue tent, and nobody really knows what's going on. When you see a guy that's injured like that, it's really like a gut punch. It truly is really hard to continue the intensity, and playing the game like that never happened."
Star running back Christian McCaffrey echoed that sentiment, noting how difficult it was to regroup after seeing another leader go down.
"It's just heartbreaking," McCaffrey said. "It's such a weird game when you have to see somebody like that—and what happened with [DE Nick] Bosa earlier in the year—and then just have to continue to play. It's kind of a weird deal, but it's heartbreaking.
"He's one of the best players I've ever played with and one of the best leaders I've ever played with. And so, you know, it's heartbreaking."
The loss to Tampa Bay dropped the 49ers to 4-2 on the season. Now, they will look to regroup and rally without their defensive captain as the team prepares for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
Warner's injury adds to a growing list of setbacks, but the 49ers remain determined to push forward while Warner begins working toward a comeback.
