Dianna Russini, in her latest column for The Athletic, believes San Francisco will look into a possible trade for Hendrickson. On X, Russini posted, "49ers GM John Lynch says the team is exploring trade options on the pass rusher market ahead of the trade deadline. I expect them to check in on the availability of Cincinnati's Trey Hendrickson."
In her article, she wrote, "Teams are mostly in the information-gathering phase right now — not just evaluating potential targets, but taking a hard look at themselves, too. Injuries, slumps, and locker room temperature checks will dictate whether a front office buys or sells.
"San Francisco is canvassing the pass rusher market to fill the void left by Nick Bosa's injury. I expect them to call Cincinnati about Trey Hendrickson."
Hendrickson would certainly help the 49ers put more pressure on the quarterback. In his previous two seasons, Hendrickson sacked the QB 17.5 times each year. He's had at least 13.5 sacks in four of his eight previous seasons. And so far this year, Hendrickson already has four sacks and could be headed to another double-digit sack season.
On Thursday, GM John Lynch was a guest on KNBR radio and said, "I'm having a lot of conversations, a lot of good and productive ones. If we find a way to make our football team better and it aligns, then we will not be shy on pulling the trigger."
The 49ers have not been shy about pulling the trigger on trades in the past. But this offseason was different, as the 49ers set out to get cheaper and younger. Will that mindset impact a potential trade for someone like Hendrickson?
The NFL trade deadline is November 4th.
