With Brock Purdy still sidelined by a toe injury, there has been concern about whether Jones would be healthy enough to start Sunday's matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he can't go, backup Adrian Martinez would be in line for his first NFL start.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR on Thursday afternoon and shared an optimistic update on Jones' status heading into Week 6.
When asked if Jones was able to throw during practice, Shanahan explained, "Yeah, he wasn't able today, so he just focused on handoffs and stuff like that. So, really trying to rest it up. Should be good to go on Sunday, but definitely wasn't good enough to go today. So hopefully, that'll continue to improve."
Shanahan also addressed wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who returned to practice on Thursday as a limited participant after missing last week's game against the Rams with ankle and rib injuries.
"I think it's close to the same thing as last week," Shanahan said. "You know, having more time to do this (last week was a short week with the game on Thursday night), definitely has a better chance. He was able to do a few things today, but I think that one will come down to the wire."
