A win in Tampa will allow the 49ers to remain as the top seed in the NFC through Week Six. So, what makes the 49ers the most dangerous team in the NFC?
Reinforcements
The 49ers are the most injured team in the NFL. They're 3-0 with their backup quarterback, Mac Jones. Backup tight end Jake Tonges has three touchdowns and is tied for first in receiving touchdowns on the team.
The 49ers will soon get back some of their offensive juggernauts, starting with Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall. Once the 49ers are healthy again, they will be able to dominate many of the defenses down the stretch.
Running Game
They are winning games without running the ball well. The 49ers' run game has been obsolete. They're ranked 27th in rushing yards with 426, and 28th in rushing yards per game with 85.2. The team has yet to score a rushing touchdown after five weeks of football.
Once the 49ers return to the ground game and generate explosive runs down the field, they will be even more dangerous as a team.
Development
Their youth will only get better. The 49ers have a young team with many young players set to start in 2025. Defensively, the 49ers are starting defensive end Mykel Williams, safety Marques Sigle, and nickel back Upton Stout. With the injury to Kalia Davis, defensive tackle Alfred Collins could start this week against the Buccaneers.
The young players are making their mistakes now, and the 49ers are 4-1. Once the game begins to slow down, and those players become more experienced, they will be dominant pieces on Robert Saleh's defense.
The 49ers' coaching has been electrifying so far, both offensively and defensively, as well as on special teams. Through all of the adversity, they're finding ways to get their players to dig deep and find ways to win week in and week out. The team could easily be undefeated, but they turned the ball over four times against the Jaguars at home.
The 49ers may not have won their four games in a pretty fashion, but this season seems to be a grind and full of grit. If the 49ers get their reinforcements back, run the ball successfully, and develop their youth, they will be the most dangerous team in the NFC.
