Purdy was a limited participant in practice last week but was ultimately ruled out of the Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, leaving Mac Jones to make his second straight start for San Francisco. Purdy was again limited during Wednesday's session this week, but signs continue to point in the right direction.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided an encouraging update Thursday morning on NFL Network's Good Morning Football.
"He has been back at practice this week on a limited basis," Rapoport said. "Actually practiced at the end of last week, too. Did very, very little, dealing with that turf toe—that, essentially, a toe sprain. Also, a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. That is less problematic.
"Because of it being a second week of practice for Purdy, and because of him basically getting to a point where he has kind of reached the zone of where he might be able to play, it certainly seems like he's got a real chance to be back on the field for the 49ers, who have unbelievably kept winning since he has been out.
"It's certainly something to keep an eye on, but I would say some positivity there."
Purdy isn't the only 49ers quarterback dealing with an injury. Jones re-aggravated a knee sprain he initially suffered in August. Both quarterbacks were listed as limited on Wednesday's practice report.
San Francisco will monitor their health closely as the team looks to improve its record to 4-0 this weekend.
