Jennings is battling multiple injuries, including an ankle injury sustained in Week 2 and a shoulder injury from Week 1. The 49ers wideout did not participate in practice last week while the team prepared for the Cardinals.
"Ricky Pearsall will serve as San Francisco's No. 1 wideout Sunday, with recent newcomers Kendrick Bourne, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore rounding out the receiver corps," ESPN wrote.
"San Francisco's injury-depleted offense already is without star tight end George Kittle and top wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk."
Schefter also reported that quarterback Brock Purdy, who is dealing with a toe injury, will remain sidelined, leaving Adrian Martinez as Jones' backup. San Francisco elevated Martinez from the practice squad on Saturday to provide depth at the position.
The 49ers made the news official soon after the report.
"The San Francisco 49ers have downgraded WR Jauan Jennings' and QB Brock Purdy's from questionable to out for today's game," the team wrote via a statement issued to the media.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Purdy could be ready for Week 4.
"My understanding: if this continues to go as it was, that he could be in line to start next week," Rapoport said. "It has been better than they anticipated."
