Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer offered a slightly more optimistic outlook than Rapoport's. He believes Purdy could miss only two to three weeks, having already sat out one. That would position him for a possible return in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars or Week 5 versus the Los Angeles Rams.
"I was told two to three weeks," Breer explained to Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show. "Maybe it's one of those deals where he gets back out there on the practice field and does light work at the end of the week. But my sense is that they want to sit him out at least two weeks, and maybe the third week.
"And this is the less serious version of turf toe than what Joe Burrow has. But it sounds like he's going to be okay."
Breer added, "I think Brock Purdy is back probably—and this is a rough estimate—I would say Week 4 or Week 5."
Despite Purdy's absence and other key injuries, Breer praised the 49ers for starting the season 2-0. He noted concerns about defensive depth but pointed out that it could strengthen as the season progresses. Combined with what's considered the NFL's easiest schedule, San Francisco is still well-positioned for success in 2025.
